Actually most women are afraid to walk alone at night. A lot of women just wont do it at all, especially in certain neighborhoods. Personally, once I’ve decided to walk alone somewhere, I refuse to actually feel afraid. But I do make decisions about where to walk based on risk. I have even once backed out of a lease contract because I was concerned about the neighborhood being dangerous.

I also think that if you look at data regarding the chance that a given man or women walking alone at night gets assaulted, it is much more likely for the woman. If there is data saying more men get attacked by strangers (I highly doubt this), this would be easily explained by the ratio of men to women on streets at night.
