Awareness. Every person calling vulvas vaginas can make a conscious decision to stop doing that. I’ve had a lot of women refuse to do this because they feel more comfortable using the word “vagina.” I think it people stopped to think about why they are doing this and what it means, they would stop.

Better education. This could be done through sex ed in schools. It could also be done via patient education in OB/GYN offices. This has actually gotten slightly better I think, but it’s important, when there is anatomy on the wall or in pamphlets, for it to be correct.

Currently ACOG and Planned Parenthood descriptions of the clitoris are incorrect. Most of the body of the clitoris is not internal. It is protruding from the body under the hood and/or mons. So when people say the glans is the only external part of the clitoris, that is wrong.
