I asked women if they’d rather lose the clitoris or the vagina

12/12 said “vagina.” Most communicated this should be obvious.

Why then is the literature on female sexual function so dominated by vaginal function?

Why is there so much more research on vaginal physiology than vulvar physiology?

Why does the gynecologic oncology literature presume that loss of vaginal function is worse than loss of clitoral function?

Why does the “bible” of gynecologic surgery day that “sexual function seems satisfactory” after intentional denervation of the glans?

Why does the overview of what knowledge is required for board certification in pelvic and reconstructive surgery is knowledge of the sexual function of the vagina emphasized and sexual function of the vulva omitted?

Why, if the clitoris is so important to women, do detailed illustrations of its anatomy in multiple planes, as shown for the penis, not exist?

Most OB/GYNs are women now.

This doesn’t make sense.

Getting clitoral neural anatomy included in OB/GYN textbooks. It was finally added for the first time in July 2019. BME/EE @WUSTL
