I think the reality is that many women actually have a problem with vulvar odor thanks to poor education about anatomy and basic hygiene.

How many women are taught to be sure they clean under the clitoral hood? Not many.

The literature indicates smegma buildup is commonly observed during pelvic exams. This is further evidenced by a high prevalence of adhesions. Adhesions are caused by the buildup of smegma to a point where it causes the normally retractable portion of the hood to adhere to the glans.

Anyway, this derives from the same fundamental problem: we aren’t talking about female genital anatomy and sexuality right in general.
