I’m a heterosexual woman. I hate gender roles and stereotypes. Maybe I am more like a man, at least stereotypically, than a woman, but that’s okay. I personally have tended to believe gender stereotypes are a load of bullshit because I haven’t observed people conforming much to them. The point of feminism is to give women the freedom and opportunity to be their true selves, unconstrained by gender. What this author is saying is that men should also have these freedoms and that by making it okay to be a masculine woman but not okay to be a feminine man, we reinforce misogyny and limit men’s options.

When a guy asked what I envisioned the future father of my kids being like, I am nearly positive I said, “supportive, nurturing, and hilarious.” That’s it. Also obviously smart, attractive, tall. I don’t think my main priorities were at all conforming to gender roles, but they are based on what I know works for me and what I want for my children (if I ever have any). I do typically work best with guys who are very direct, open, and straightforward because that is my preferred communication style.
