Sexism in Last’s Anatomy

Hopefully few physicians rely on this textbook. It seems very rudimentary. However, I was just told by the daughter of an OB/GYN that she knows her mom knows clitoral anatomy. Her mom says she learned it from Last’s Anatomy.

Clitoris

This is all Last contains about the general anatomy, nerves, and vasculature of the clitoris. Note there is no mention of vasculature, and nerves are only mentioned for the “penis (clitoris).”

Penis

This is what Last says about the general anatomy, nerves, and vasculature of the penis. Keep in mind that there is a whole other section, just as verbose, for the urethra, so the defense about the difference in coverage being due to penile urinary and ejaculatory function does not hold here.

Getting clitoral neural anatomy included in OB/GYN textbooks. It was finally added for the first time in July 2019. BME/EE @WUSTL
