The origin of a word does matter though, insofar as the evolution of it’s meaning is driven by culture. If the first use of “cunt” were as an offensive word for the entirity of female genital anatomy, this would reflect on our culture in a far different way. Similarly, if the first use of “vagina” were as a word for the entirity of female genital anatomy, having no prior meaning, this would reflect on our culture entirely differently.
How words evolve in society gives us the most information. If we continue to validate misogynistic uses of otherwise benign words, we let this evolution continue to define our culture to some degree. For example, “vagina” still just means the cavity. Consider how royally fucked up it is, when a 4 year old girl asks, “What is my pee-pee called?” to tell her it is a vagina. My guess is most little girls aren’t even aware of their vaginas. They are aware of what they can see and feel, which is the vulva.
The way I just used “fucked” is also problematic …
