Trusted how though? I trust that most (90% — I’m idealistic) people are trying to be honest. I just don’t trust most people to be competent or to be right. People don’t know what they think they know.
When journalists get their facts wrong, I don’t think it is because they are lying intentionally. I think it’s because they are stupid, careless, and lazy. But this happens all the time. When I look up articles similar to issues I’m trying to get covered, in hopes of finding an interested journalist, there are errors in every single one of them, even those written by journalists who went to Ivy League schools. It’s bizarre.
That said, when I was trying to draw attention to lack of OB/GYN education in clitoral anatomy at the ACOG convention, one OB/GYN told me to make new flyers where I make up numbers about how many patients are getting harmed. This was very alarming. I told her there were no numbers. There’s no research on that. So she literally said, “Just make it up.”
