Well yeah. I agree that marketing the prepubescent aesthetic is messed up and that efforts should be made to counter messages that protruding labia minora are unfeminine, ugly, or embarrassing.
However, what I have seen is that categorical opposition leads to controversy around whether these procedures should be done at all. What matters most is that there is informed consent and that surgeries are done by doctors who are adequately trained and know the anatomy.
What I’ve seen is that the standard of care for vulvar cosmetic surgeries is exceptionally low, especially when compared to other cosmetic procedures. In the literature for other cosmetic procedures, you see the anatomy and function covered in depth. Techniques are described in detail with notes on how to avoid iatrogenic injury. In contrast, in peer reviewed literature on clitoral hood reduction, the dorsal nerves of the clitoris are never discussed at all. Plastic surgeons learn more about the innervation of the outer ear.
