You see similar issues in surgery literature where doctors make a lot of money performing certain surgeries. The highest level of evidence available for cosmetic surgeries is experts evaluating their own results, maybe with the help of a questionnaire. They are financially incentivized to report good outcomes. If they didn’t have good outcomes showing procedures were “safe and effective,” why would they publish anything at all?
